Halloween Time at Disneyland

Halloween Time at Disneyland kicks off on August 23rd! This is one of the best and most popular times to visit Disneyland! It is super family friendly, fun and spooky.  You will find Halloween celebrated throughout the entire resort, including Disneyland, California Adventure, Downtown Disney and even the Resort Hotels!  And Halloween Time celebrations are included with your regular theme park admission with the exception of Oogie Boogie Bash.

Fun things to expect at Disneyland during Halloween Time:

  • Haunted Mansion Holiday- The Haunted Mansion is transformed into Nightmare Before Christmas and runs through the end of Christmas season
  • Dia de Los Muertos- Find your favorite Coco inspired homage to Dia de los Muertos in Frontierland
  • Mickey Jack-o-Lantern and Halloween Decor- Look for Halloween decor all throughout Disneyland, California Adventure and Downtown Disney!
  • Disney Characters in costumes- Your favorite Disney Characters will be dressed up in their own spooky costumes for the holiday season
  • Halloween treats and merchandise-  Seasonal treats and merch will be available in all of the shops around the parks!
  • Halloween Screams with fireworks or projections-  New Halloween nighttime show will be showing every night.  Weekends will include fireworks
  • Radiator Screams- In Cars Land, Radiator Springs is transformed into it’s own spooky version of Halloween
  • Guardians of the Galaxy: Monsters After Dark- Guardians of the Galaxy Mission: Breakout! has a scarier nighttime version of the ride called Monsters After Dark. Be sure to check it out!

Weather

The weather in Southern California in September is typically 80’s but it can get very hot so be prepared!  Be sure to check the weather before you go so you know how to pack and what to expect! The lows are mid 60’s so I jacket could still be needed at nights and early mornings but not likely.

There is not usually a lot of rain in California but always check the weather before you go and make sure to pack accordingly! If it is hot, dress well for the heat, take breaks, drink a lot of water and go for a lot of indoor rides. Check out my list of all of your park bag must haves that will help you beat the heat at Disneyland here!

Crowd Calendar

Crowds will be pretty manageable in September but if you can avoid Labor Day and weekends, I recommend it. If it is busy, you can still have so much fun.  And Multi-Pass is a must at this time of year!

Tips for Busy Days: Plan well, buy Multi-Pass, take advantage of rope drop and early entry (if you’re staying at a Disneyland Resort hotel) and hit rides during the shows/fireworks and 2 hours before park closing for shorter lines.  Also, if a ride has a single rider line, that is a great option as well.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be the least busy day of the week so if you can go on those days you will see lower crowds.

*Keep in mind this is just a prediction.  Crowds may be higher or lower on any of these days

Reservations

You still need reservations to enter Disneyland and can make those when you buy your tickets through Get Away Today or Disneyland.  Make sure the dates you want are available before purchasing your tickets.  And if they aren’t, check back every day because sometimes new reservations will pop up. Also, Disneyland just changed how they do reservations and you can now modify a reservation in the app instead of having to cancel and rebook a reservation! YAY!  This will make life so much easier if you need to change days or starting parks!

You can begin park hopping at 11am!

Save with Get Away Today

Want to save a little money on your next trip to Disneyland?  Get Away Today has got you covered!  There is a huge summer offer happening right now! You can purchase this deal through September 12th, so if you’re headed to the parks in August, do not miss this! Ticket prices start at $50/day per child and $83/day per adult!!

Disneyland Tips for September

  • Crowds will be very manageable in September.  It’s one of my favorite months to visit!  If you want to make the most of your time, use rope drop, early entry, single rider lines and Multi-Pass to maximize your time in the parks, but unless you’re there on a weekend or Labor Day, you really shouldn’t run into that many crowds.
  • It will probably be warm or hot! Check the local weather and pack accordingly!
  • Make dining reservations for restaurants or utilize mobile ordering! Check for dining reservations 60 days before your trip. If you can’t get dining reservations on your own, check out Mouse Dining! They will email you when the reservations you want pop up.  All you have to do is sign up for a FREE account at this link

September is one of the best times to visit Disneyland.  Crowds are lower, it’s Halloween Time!  It really doesn’t get much better than that! The weather can be very warm or hot so be prepared for that.  The fireworks, World of Color and parades are happening, but the days and times may be a little bit uncertain so make sure you check the Disneyland app for the days you’re going to be there. Halloween Time is amazing and there is no shortage of things to do during this time! Have an amazing time!

XOXO 🙂
